The 10th day of testimony in the trial of St. Lucie doctor who is accused of providing addictive prescriptions was held on Thursday. The prosecutors in Asuncion Luyao trial revealed her past as casino gambler to prove a motive for her alleged crimes.
The 64 years old suspended doctor of St. Lucie is charged with six counts of trafficking oxycodone, six counts of manslaughter in the deaths of six patients and one count of racketeering.
Palm Beach Casino Cruise Lines testified about Luyao casino cruises. According to his testimony, she participated in hundreds of casino cruises between 1999 and 2002, when she was arrested. The prosecutors in the trial claim that Luyao motive was to keep her patients addicted so they would continue to pay her office fees to support her gambling trips.
