Real Life Poker game Meets the Sopranos

2006-02-27 11:24:00
In the last 18 months reports of poker games at homes getting robbed have been steadily on the rise.
This is not another episode of the sopranos; this is a case of real life imitating art. Robbers have found themselves a new target; home poker games.

Police say robbers know that people bring large amounts of cash to these friendly games and that the players are usually drinking, making them potentially easy targets. A man in Manassas VA had his game interrupted twice in as many weeks. When the second one wound up being the police, they were relieved until they were fined for having an illegal poker game.

Some players have decided to hire private security for their game, but it has not proven 100% effective. One such robbery the two robbers were off duty police officers.

Police have put out a list of ways to protect your game. You can do this by locking the doors after all the players have arrived, keeping the window shades drawn making it hard to see in from the outside and moving the game to different players houses every week.
