The second annual Texas Holdem Poker Tournament for the James Tutino Memorial Scholarship Fund is scheduled for April 30 at the Boys & Girls Club of Simi Valley.
The annual event held by the Tutino family and the Simi Valley chamber of Commerce is in memory of James Tutino. He was a Los Angelis sheriff’s officer who was killed in a Metrolink crash in Glendale along with 10 other people.
Tutino was a 23 year veteran of the force and for the last 5 years before his death he was the assistant coach at the local High School.
Tutino was known not jus for teaching the players football but encouraging them to live life to the fullest extent possible. He would regularly spend his own money to buy equipment for those players who could not afford it, and would always stay late so that the players could get in extra hours in the weight room.
The hope is that the scholarship that bears his name can continue to help students who would not be able to go to college without the assistance. This is something he would have done himself if he had been able to. All the contributions are welcome to assist in this mission.
