Gambling VS Non Gambling in Indiana

Against heavy opposition bar owners are trying to get video gambling machines legalized in bars.

Indianapolis bar owners are getting ready to once again try to convince the government to legalize video gambling machines in bars. The State Senate is scheduled to hear a bill to legalize the video gambling machines in racetracks and the states bar owners want to get an amendment put into the bill allowing them to have the machines in their bars as well.

Gambling machines such as these are illegal in Indianapolis but according to the Indiana Licensed Beverage Association there are as many as 20,000 of these video gambling machines already in use In the state, and they are currently in places where children have easy access to them.

According to an ILBA spokesperson if the machines were legalized in racetracks and bars the chances of someone underage getting to them would be fairly low. "e are not trying to expand gambling in the state" said the spokesmen" we just want to stop children from getting easy access to these machines"

Meanwhile the spokesperson for Indiana Coalition Against Legalized Gambling disagreed with the other groups assessment and said that they just want to make money from the machines and don’t care at all about the kids. It is the position of the ICALG that legalized gambling in bars will eventually turn Indiana into a giant casino.

Both groups intend to try to meet with members of the government to try to way their votes.
