This years World Series of Poker prize pool sets new record.

Big Prize Pool at the WSOP

The World Series of Poker is the most prestigious and lucrative poker tournament worldwide. Players from all over the world participate each year in this tournament and the prize pools increase every year. This years WSOP prize is likely to get to 100 million dollars, becoming thus the biggest prize in the history of the tournament. This is due to the amazing number of participants that have paid the entry fees this year. Since World Series of Poker 2003 and its prize pool of over 22 million dollars, the tournaments number of players has increased dramatically, doubling the prize pool twice, once in 2004, and this year again.

This years tournament will begin on the 7th of July. Up until now the number of participants estimated is 13.500. Taking into account the remaining satellite tournaments and other competitions where players can qualify for the World Series of Poker until July, organizers of the event calculate that the prize pool by them might reach 100 million dollars. This will make the 36th Annual World Series of Poker the richest and most populated tournament in the history of poker. A famed World Series of Poker winner in Pot-Limit Omaha, said that he was impressed by this huge prize. He added that after many years playing poker he had never seen anything alike in any tournament.

The World Series of Poker consists of 45 events. Each of them allows players win a seat at the final, which this year will take place at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino. After years celebrating the final in Las Vegas, the organization board decided to move to a bigger place due to the overwhelming number of participants. The hotel has equipped its gambling area with 200 poker tables.

The director of communications for the World Series of Poker said that they are proud of keeping breaking the record every year. He also said that they are pleased not only with the number of participants but above all about their quality.
