Texas Holdem is not an easy game to play well. To become an expert you must balance many concepts, some of which occasionally contradict each other. In 1988, the first edition appeared. Many ideas, which were only known to a small, select group of Texas Holdem players, were made available to anyone who was striving to become an expert, and the holdem explosion had begun. It is now a new century, and the Texas Holdem authors have again moved the state of the art forward by adding over 100 pages of new material, including extensive sections on loose games, and short-handed games. Anyone who studies this text, is well disciplined, and gets the proper experience should become a significant winner at Texas Holdem. Some of the other ideas discussed include play on the first two cards, semi-bluffing, the free card, inducing bluffs, staying with a draw, playing when a pair flops, playing trash hands, desperation bets, playing in wild games, reading hands, and psychology.
The most updated version of the book is excellent for all forms of play in Texas Holdem. This book is primarily designed for the more skilled games, $10/$20 limits and up. However, the updated version (1999) has a wealth of information about playing against less skilled Texas Holdem players you find in lower limit games ($2/$4, $5/$10, etc).
This book is clearly for advanced or at least experienced Texas Holdem players only. Beginners will not take much if anything from this book! It is pretty clear it builds off a few books more toward the beginner, which I have not read. If you inexperienced at Texas Holdem, check out the more beginner level books. The concepts in Texas Holdem for Advanced Players are extremely complex. Most notably, many of these concepts are very subtle in the book. They are very easy to pick up if you are a solid Texas Holdem player. But if you are new to the game, they will be difficult to pick up and much of the wealth of information in this book will be completely lost.
This is must read information for anyone who wants to play Texas Holdem at any serious level and win money.
